Fastnet are recruiting on behalf of our industry leading client for an experienced Mechanical Manager to work on a contract basis. The initial project is due to go on until December 2022, after that there is another phase for the successful candidate to continue working on.

The role

To manage the Mechanical division of a residential project in Central London from conception through to delivery, reporting to the Project Manager.


  • – To manage and co-ordinate the Mechanical division of the relevant residential project from conception through to delivery
  • – Manage and oversee the on-site construction team, including Mechanical and external Contractors
  • – Ensure Sub-contractors work to the programme, construction sequence and efficient deployment when pro-actively allocating work
  • – Implementing Mechanical Safe Systems of Work procedure
  • – Ensure the highest consideration is given when complying with current regulations and specific client requirements
  • – Reporting of all Health and Safety issues and manage the issue and upkeep of PPE to the team
  • – Proactively demonstrating Health and Safety Leadership and monitoring on site; ensuring the safety standards are understood, implemented and maintained by all team members and Contractors
  • – Carrying out detailed Quality Assurance inspections of installations in accordance with the QA procedure
  • – Manage and oversee the Mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning including the flushing, testing and chlorination of the systems
  • – Implement and monitor the project to ensure it is engineered to the highest standard
  • – Take ownership of Mechanical issues and liaise with the Client and Design consultants to obtain closure and clarifications where necessary
  • – Ensure appropriate quality and workmanship
  • – Carry out Toolbox talks were required to Sub-contractors
  • – Provide weekly updates to the Contracts Manager and Projects Manager
  • – Review of ongoing works and highlight potential defects or risks
  • – Complete accurate project materials take off as allocated by the project procurement process
  • – Compile project and task specific RAMS and ensure they are updated in line with the project progress
  • – Ensure installations are in accordance with drawing specifications


Skills and experience required

  • – An industry relevant City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or above
  • – Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Manager
  • – Experience working on residential projects
  • – Ability to influence and drive positive attitudes and behaviours with regards to site Health and Safety
  • – Experience dealing with MEP Sub-contractors
  • – IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
  • – Up to date First Aid qualification
  • – Essential knowledge of relevant Health and Safety requirements and Mechanical Safe Systems of Work
  • – Experience of managing staff and 3rd parties essential
  • – Will need to be able to understand building services including design principles, method statements, inspection test plans, risk assessments, commissioning, and handover requirements
